Description

I'd love to have one whole novel about Kizzie being a kickass investigator/enforcer and Idrian with his combat engineer troops. Truthfully, I don’t think I would’ve been quite so accepting of the wild ideas if the author hadn’t already established my trust in the Powder Mage trilogies. Granted, I think it would help ease a new reader into the plot and settle in more comfortably, given how much there is to take in. We also get to see Demir’s best friend and one of the fiercest warriors of this world “Baby” Montego through Demir’s POV for the majority of this book.

Demir’s chapters are a mix of political intrigue, mystery, and war all while developing the magic system. On the weekend you can find him visiting family, going to church, and most of all at home under a blanket while reading books, watching anime/tv shows, or playing video games with friends. In the prologue, Demir led a successful military campaign, only to have a betrayer turn the tables on him and cause the campaign to end in disgrace. From Brian McClellan, author of The Powder Mage trilogy, comes the first novel in the Glass Immortals series, In the Shadow of Lightning, an epic fantasy where magic is a finite resource—and it’s running out. Recommendations: this is an incredibly creative and original fantasy that has the power to jolt (pun) anyone out of a reading rut.

It was a visceral sport, and Demir felt that it defined the entire Ossan experience wonderfully—the way contestants broke their bodies for the chance at glory while everyone else cheered them on. He felt a gentle hand on his back while he spat out bile, then wiped his mouth on an offered handkerchief. The only person who didn’t like me was the bookie stupid enough to make bets with his clients’ money—I’m guessing he’s your cousin. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

I'm writing this review as an author critiquing another author's book, in an attempt to improve my own writing and editing skills. It has intriguing magic, amazing world-building, charismatic characters and especially enjoy the surprising twist at the end and the awesome cliffhangers. He cast his mental net outward, using his glassdancer sorcery to make note of every windowpane and wine bottle in the cantina. Demir (who feels like the main character) was a member of the elite and a promising general before a betrayal broke his mind.
