Description

When classmates Angelo, Hallie, Gustav and Naira are forced to come to school on a Saturday, they already think it's the worst day ever. There’s plenty of humour to balance out the scares and this is the perfect book for those of us who loved goosebumps and want to relive that feeling. This is Killick’s best book yet; think 'The Breakfast Club’ meets 'Stranger Things’, making great use of her talent for comic dialogue and her astute eye for just the right kind of scary for this age group. The pay off when all their crazy ideas come together is a similar to the epic moment in a film and I love reading them!

This fast paced, spine chilling, gripping, horror/adventure with a added dash of humour is the first in a series and introduces the reader to The Loser Club, Angelo, Gustav, Hallie and Niara. Skillfully written, with a gorgeous cast of characters, great heart, and a moving and satisfying ending. The characters from varied backrounds all have have personal secrets which not only reveal their reputation reasons, but why they are in detention in the first place.

Four kids gather together at school on a Saturday for a detention but this is like no normal detention. I am also looking forward to the next book, Flinch especially because I have read a suspenseful extract. This is a brilliant book, particularly suitable for readers aged 9 - 13 who are looking for an action-packed, horror adventure.

I didn’t have a preference when I started reading this book, but now I definitely love them as a whole and through their moniker “Club Loser”. I read and reviewed this book for a blog tour, so thank you to the blog tour organiser for having me on this tour. They all have their demons, their fears, their regrets, their guilt, and I really enjoyed reading about each of their stories because I found it made them very relatable, human and above all, very endearing. The foursome think things couldn’t get any worse, that is until their teacher is dragged underground, animals go missing and the creepy caretaker follows them humming the tune to Incy Wincy spider.I like how amidst the horror there was laughter (particularly from Gus who is a funny character) and friendship. In my opinion, I feel that this experience made them stronger, and I’m interested to see where their newly formed friendship will take them in book two. They also have so many layers which are peeled back over the course of the book that you can't help but love them. I'm really looking forward to seeing the gang in future books, with the promise of an unusual app / hide and seek game in the next book.

The glass children for example, another horror book for children, manages to have interesting characters and keeps me, as an older teen, on the edge of my seat.Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
