Description

The Film focuses on 3 players from that team who were all born and bred in Nottingham, and all went on to play for England. This compelling film, which will fittingly have its world premiere in Nottingham on May 25, 2023, charts the lives and careers of the three Nottingham Forest football players during a time of major political and social upheaval and cultural change in the UK. All three players are really honest and speak so well about their lives - something today's players never do. Local Heroes Documentary directed by John Warrington depicting the rise of footballers Viv Anderson, Garry Birtles and Tony Woodcock in the 1970s.

Excerpts and links may be used, provided that full and clear credit is given to Darren Lucas and Movie Reviews with appropriate and specific direction to the original content. Anderson made history as the first black footballer to play for England, he went on to have many wins, both on and off the pitch, he was awarded an MBE in 2000 and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2004.Trinity will handle the film's distribution, including DVD, in the UK and work to promote it globally among the club's fans, sports documentary enthusiasts, broadcasters, and platforms. The film itself tells the story of three boys from Nottingham, Viv Anderson, Tony Woodcock and Garry Birtles, who all played for Nottingham Forest in the late 70s and early 80s. It follows their upbringing in the Nottingham area from working-class families to becoming professional players. At the moment, we don’t have a trailer, but you can gleam a little more at the listing page for the disc release.

And NottinghamshireLive can exclusively reveal a trailer as Local Heroes prepares for its big release, coming just as the current Reds side prepare for their decisive final two games in their bid for Premier League survival. I particularly liked the candid camera work, and the director John Warrington deserves great credit for keeping the feeling of ‘being in Nottingham’ running throughout the film. The determined attitude to succeed against all odds is a characteristic which they have all had to rely on since retiring from football.

The stories of Viv Anderson, Garry Birtles and Tony Woodcock are explored in a new film tied to the successes of Nottingham Forest Football Club. There was a recent episode on 1865 podcast where they interview Anderson, largely about the film but they also quiz him on the current setup. The story of Forest’s glory years under Brian Clough is well-known, but this new movie sheds light on a different side of the tale.
