Description

HWDT have been tracking migratory minke whales and resident killer whales in the Hebrides since the Trust was first founded in 1994. Choosing to pay by Direct Debit helps your money go further; it helps our long-term planning and keeps our administration costs down. The Orcas in the Strait of Gibraltar suffer a lot from industrial tuna fishing, which is gradually depriving them of food. By selecting the wildlife adoption kit you like best, you are helping to protect all species at risk – not just one. We are opposed to the keeping of orca in captivity and work with like-minded organisations to raise awareness about the plight of orca in captivity.

Approaching dangerously close to boats, her behaviour and physical condition were a growing cause for concern. Mating takes place between individuals from different pods and it is thought that lengthy courtship occurs. She was first seen on May 30, 2019, near Tofino which is on the outer coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. A law to protect the Orcas, which is supposed to regulate the catch quotas and contribute to the improvement of the situation, has not really mitigated the situation so far. In late 2002 she had her second offspring, Sonata (K-35), who can most often be seen close by his mother.

This helps us understand why the animal died and what health issues might be present in the marine ecosystem.

She is a spunky whale and is sometimes seen playing with her two cousins, Windsong (L-121) and Cousteau (L-113). Orca’s are under threat from habitat pollution, being entangled in fishing nets, and in some locations lack of food due to overfishing. His mother is Hy'Shqa (J-37) and her siblings, Suttles (J-40) and Se-Yi-Chn (J-45) also received their names in this manner. Eco-Friendly Orca Adoptions are the green way to Meet the Whales and get to know an individual orca.In December 2004, she had her first known offspring, Comet (K-38), proving that she is indeed a female. We rely on your generosity to continue our work to ensure cetaceans are protected and valued throughout the Hebrides.
