Description

The 14 x 12 eke is a simple device which fits on top of a National brood box to provide space for 12″ high frames (see below). The shed roof comes as standard with 11mm oriented strand board and is covered in Granite Grey Mineral Slate Ultrapol SBS Polyester Mineral Roofing Felt, and is finished off with matching fascias. The pent roof makes the unit blend into the garden while giving you full headroom throughout the complete shed.

Our new feeder design also features a removable plug, which can provide access to fondant placed inside the feeder. The complete brood body comes with 11 Hoffman self spacing frames, premier wired foundation, dummy board, metal runners, nails and instructions. Queens are sent in a travelling cage with several attendants, candy and full introduction instructions. These bees are on 14x12 frames which are suitable for a standard 14x12 brood box or WBC 14x12 brood box.I feel my bees over-winter better on a single brood and with OMFs, they have more space to retreat from any severe weather conditions than if a single standard brood only. A tip would be to feed to help them draw out the foundation with a rapid feeder, miller feeder, contact feeder, frame feeder, what ever you like.

The colony will re-orientate to the new entrance and will concentrate their efforts in the 14 x 12 box. This simple yet effective concept allows beekeepers to easily create self-sustaining mating nucs that are from a standardised national frame design. The positives of double brood for me are ease of splitting (for whatever reason), rarely having to feed, all the brood parts are identical and usually I can do a comb change once the bees are properly active by removing the bottom box (which is rarely in use at that point) and putting a fresh box of foundation on top, then repeating the process for the next season. Once they have started drawing comb, put the queen on her brood frame in the top box and continue to feed for, say, another week; her presence will encourage the bees to do more upstairs. This is 20% higher in density than competitor’s boxes, therefore offering higher durability and improved thermal properties.I've had to do an "emergency" extract of brood frames in the spring when the bees had packed the broodnest i.

Bees will generally build comb where you don't want it - under the deep frames - and you still have to get rid of them at some time which is why I would prefer to get the job done early as a Baily comb exchange rather than have shallower frames in the hive for some time. The most common flaw is a slight blue tinge which is a natural colouration sometimes appearing during the drying process whilst some others may have a small knot in the underside of the frame bar. Please note - All of our products must be installed on a level solid base, the usual but not limited to methods are either concrete, paving slabs (flags), a wooden frame. Just insert the metal frame runners into the slots (provided) and give your hive a lick of paint and you are ready to go! This will not affect the structural integrity of the product – this is natural and is not covered by a guarantee. Our box not only acts as a single 6 frame nuc, it can also double up as a 2-way mating nuc with the unique divider insert and separate coloured entrances located on each side of the box. The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. We are a team of passionate beekeepers supplying beginner beekeepers and fellow bee farmers across the nation. Yes, put the 14 x 12 box on top of the National brood box (no queen excluder) and feed to encourage the bees to draw out the foundation.
