But what happens outside the mystery with the regular characters like Charles and Roy and James and Mrs. Agatha's in need of a well-earned break and with Christmas just around the corner it looks like the perfect opportunity to relax.

Eager to soak up every ounce of drama, Agatha puts everyone in the village under a microscope, including the victim’s own children. The first season was Miss Marple-esque with a strong lead and support characters, with quirky locals. Hmmmmm though ~ perhaps it needs to go the way of my former thinking that I had to finish every book that I started. Bedtime cosy reading is something that anyone who has read my reviews before knows that I read concurrently with more exciting or demanding books that I tackle during the daytime hours.

The case is solved of course and the epilogue finds Agatha hosting a big Christmas feast for everyone which is more of a success than the disastrous Christmas dinner that ended the previous book. With DCI Wilkes on vacation, Bill stays on as lead officer on the case, lending Agatha a helping hand. There is a hint of depth there, a kernel of a much more interesting personality, but it was never developed in this book. Highly recommend to people who like mystery series, sassy woman and books that take place in quaint British village and all the characters that come with it.

The Christmas celebration doesn't go exactly as she'd hoped, but the mystery gets solved, and Agatha realizes that she should refocus her romantic aspirations. Agatha Raisin has always wanted to have a traditional Christmas with a proper Christmas tree, turkey and plum pudding and especially snow on Christmas day. I think in this short book, Agatha learns some important lessons, and Christmas stories are such a good setting for those life lessons. And in her dreams, James Lacey kissed her under the mistletoe, and, like a middle-aged sleeping beauty, she would awake to passion once more. Who in this rather sterile house, complete with fake family portraits, could have hated the old lady enough to poison her? This year she is sure that if she invites James to a really splendid, old-fashioned Christmas dinner, their love will rekindle like a warm Yule log. Bloxby, and with a new hire at the agency, Toni, and a surprise at Agatha's Christmas dinner, are all quite entertaining and make this one a delightful cozy mystery. se passe en octobre et novembre, pis à la fin, Agatha fait son souper de Noël "traditionnel" raté, même pas à Noël mais une semaine avant. There is something about her antics that i could continue to randomly read even tho its a middle way rating. When that didn’t work out, they went to Virginia and Marion worked as a waitress in a greasy spoon on the Jefferson Davies in Alexandria while Harry washed the dishes.

Agatha is a romantic at heart and longs for a traditional English country Christmas with all her friends. Known as the “Queen of Crime” (The Globe and Mail), she was born in Scotland and started her career writing historical romances under several pseudonyms as well as her maiden name, Marion Chesney.

Certes, au bout de 18 tomes, on connaît la chanson : Agatha Raisin a le crime dans la peau et dénoue les enquêtes sans aucune délicatesse et avec beaucoup de chance. The detective work has fallen by the wayside and been replaced by an occasionally funny but always enjoyable show. During the dark, grey days of early December Agatha is obsessed by two things – the looming festivities, and her ex, James Lacey. The mystery itself is not absorbing or even remotely original, and the motivations of most of the suspects unclear. Agatha is determined to have an old fashioned Christmas, complete with friends, decorations, good food, and romance.
