For a future book there may be value in considering whether playing with grammar, spacing, font and sizing changes etc. Founded by Kay in 2004, Project VOICE encourages people to use spoken word poetry as a tool for personal and world understanding, and a medium for vital expression.

I think the best word to describe this collection is EARNEST; Sarah has truly poured her heart and soul into these poems. Sarah Kay, a graduate of Brown University, was born in New York to a Japanese American mother and a Jewish American father. I didn't know anything about Sarah Kay or her poetry before I met her at the signing for Jonny Sun's book this past June, but once I heard her read her poem "The Paradox," I was immediately enthralled and added her poetry collection, No Matter The Wreckage, to my TBR and my Christmas want list. Regardless, nothing can prepare you for the poems you haven't read yet, and there are quite a few of them.I highly think the connection between us is palpable, her words connect to me with too much precision. Reading through the poems (to myself and out loud to family members) I found that I could not quite capture all of the magic that Sarah has when she presents her poems. But I wrote the poem after a pattern had developed in my life that resulted in me having “near-misses” with great tragedies. This collection's transformative helps readers to find a sanctuary of words that uplift your spirit and ignite imagination.

But few hide under the bar of the famous Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan's East Village absorbing the talents of New York's most exciting poets. You may have never heard of Sarah Kay or maybe you have watched every performance in every nook and cranny of the internet. For some I imagine reading the poetry will not compare to watching her present, but I think that that is a limitation of the medium, more than a complaint about the book.the Literary Bohemian, DecomP, Damselfly Press, Union Station Magazine, Foundling Review, the Huffington Post, CNN. It will stick to your feelings and invigorate your inner cries a little bit (or more than a little bit), but most importantly it is an additional stunning perspective to view the world in. On a practical level, a poem that is spoken benefits from being presented with the tempo and emphasis that the poet had in mind.

Another being Hand-Me-Downs, shows how we can inherit traits from our family, and it may not always necessarily be a beautiful thing.

I couldn't fathom or relate to most of her poems which made it harder for me to like this collection of poems. Kay is also a successful educator, who co-directs Project VOICE (Vocal Outreach Into Creative Expression). This book is only 130 pages, so it's short to begin with, but I managed to tear through the entire book in less than 12 hours because I just kept wanting to read the next poem and read more of Kay's amazing words. A best-selling author of four books of poetry including B, No Matter the Wreckage, The Type, and All Our Wild Wonder.

Whether or not you're a big fan of poetry, I absolutely recommend picking this book up, because I can absolutely guarantee that you will fall in love with it.It is like watching a really good film, and then reading the book and taking a slightly different experience away with it, like reading Lord of the Rings after watching the film, and still enjoying the book afterwards. Most importantly, the poems themselves are beautifully written, capturing a spectrum of ideas and topics in a really touching, personal fashion. Sarah Kay also had the guts to take its stage and hold her own against performers at least a decade her senior. After a long awaited compilation of 10 years, Sarah Kay finally publishes her collection of poems which can only be described as brutally raw, naked, and hopeful. So many irrelevant personal stories were shared by the author in this book that made it impossible for me to relate while reading.
