I think my son spoke more about his feelings but no impact on his behaviour and actually during a meltdown or a tantrum, he would not have the patience for the activities. I saw them more for bonding and communication between parent and child and getting children to discuss feelings and being kind to one another rather than connected to behaviour and actually there was no guidance on how to use the cards when dealing with perhaps challenging behaviour.

So yes I do highly recommend these cards – they are a brilliant way to connect with your kids and encourage them to be more mindful and support for a truly wonderful charity along the way . If Mindful Monsters was to create an additional product, what would you like it to be? I'd like more activities for a school setting as I think these would be a valued tool. A generational change in the way we all approach our daily lives means that mindfulness has entered the public consciousness, as the result of a greater awareness towards mental health. The act of being present with our thoughts and feelings, mindfulness can contribute towards children’s overall sense of wellbeing by improving focus, encouraging calm and helping them learn to cope with difficult emotions. Mindfulness has been a buzzword for quite a while now but that does not mean that people actually know what it it or even how to put it into action. I have written recently about how to raise a mindful child if you want more depth on this subject The aim of this post is to explore mindfulness and share you really simple ways to explore this concept with you kids through using a variety of books and Scope’s Mindful Monsters Mindful Monsters As our charity of choice, SuperCamps are delighted to endorse disability equality charity, Scope. Scope provide practical information and emotional support when it's most needed, and campaign relentlessly to create a fairer society. Opportunities to donate to the charity will be present across all SuperCamps venues from February 2020. You can also easily donate here. The Mindful Monsters cards launch this week. Take a look, I think they are completely fabulous – a brilliant investment of time and into your child’s wellbeing! Pain Monster: Picture your monster standing in front of you and see if you can let go of any resistance you feel as you simply observe it. Treat it with compassion, the way you might welcome a friend into your home even if they are dirty, smelly, cranky and tired from a long day. You don’t have to like how they look or smell to welcome them in. Your poor monster has nowhere else to go and just needs to be accepted unconditionally and cared for. If you want to incorporate a version of “Color-your-life” (pg. 55 of the Mindful Monsters Workbook), have them assign a color to each feeling and use varying amounts of colored yarn to show how much they feel each emotion. We conducted insight interviews with mums with primary school children and uncovered that they wanted to build their children’s emotional resilience so they are able to thrive in an uncertain world.

I have written before about How to raise a mindful child it is something I care about deeply and so I was very receptive to doing a mindful monsters review I worry a lot about the future and ponder to much on the past and I definitely need to learn to be more mindful and stay focussed on the present so my brain can erest! I want to model this to my kids too Mindful Monsters ReviewAfter completing the initial Feelings Monster activity but before moving onto this one, assist the child in understanding the importance of accepting emotions while they gradually build their tolerance. This step takes time and patience. A generational change in the way we all approach our daily lives, mindfulness has entered the public consciousness as the result of a greater awareness towards mental health. The act of being present with our thoughts and feelings, mindfulness can contribute towards children's overall sense of wellbeing by improving focus, encouraging calm and helping them learn to cope with difficult emotions. Work together to create a pompom out of yarn that the child can decorate to make their feelings monster. Definitely soft toys to bring the different monsters to life a bit more, especially for younger children like DS. Also perhaps a journal that children can fill in themselves/with help from a parent that encourages them to record positive things done that day.
