Tripods with head Tripod Heads Video Heads Ball Heads Three Way Heads Specialist & Gimbal Heads Tripod Legs Tripod Accessories Mini Tripods & Clamps The 24-70mm f/4 S has one switch (A/M) and two rings. The zoom ring is the frontmost ring and marked at 24, 28, 35, 50, and 70mm and rotates about a quarter turn from wide to tele (again, there's a "retracted point, which requires moving the lens another 1/8 of a turn from 24mm).

And there's good news for videographers, as Nikon has once again done a great job of controlling focus breathing, just as it did in the other members of its Z-mount F2.8 zoom trinity, the Nikkor Z 14-24mm F2.8 S and Nikkor Z 70-200mm F2.8 VR S. In this review, we have compared the Nikkor Z 24-70mm F/4S to its closest rivals from other brands. Remember that the lenses are intended to be used on different camera systems and mounts, so the comparisons are not strictly applicable. The problem that rears its ugly head from time to time, though, is busy bokeh in slightly defocused regions or transition zones. Below, take a look at a slightly defocused region behind the focus plane. Objects appear to have a double-edge, almost a motion blur-like appearance. We're increasingly seeing this type of busy bokeh in transition zones of modern lenses using multiple complex aspheric designs, so we'll stress that this is nothing particularly unique to this lens, but it is something you may see pop up from time to time that may be distracting. It won't affect more defocused bokeh, but subjects just starting to fall out of focus may appear busy. Unless otherwise stated, all measurements are performed in conformity with Camera and Imaging Products Association (CIPA) standards or guidelines. Nikon Z5 at a glance

Silver Maple Motel Office, October 2018, 6:35 P.M. Nikon Z7, Nikon 24-70mm f/4 Z at 48mm, f/4 hand-held at 1/13 at Auto ISO 200, Perfectly Clear v3.6. bigger. Note that a lot of testers seem to be testing this lens only with the lens corrections in place—which I’m also doing for my primary results because that’s the way most people will shoot with it, JPEG or NEF—which tends to exaggerate any sharpness problems in the corners a bit. Nikon’s MTF charts suggest that the 24-70mm should be better than good in the corners, and 70mm probably should produce the worst corner performance. I see just that, but only when I test without lens corrections. Pressing the Display button next to the OLED panel cycles through aperture, focal length and focus displays. The latter also includes a handy depth-of-field scale. The Z5's dynamic range is good at low to medium ISO settings but does drop away from the Sony A7 III and Panasonic S1 at higher ISOs. It does comfortably beat the much cheaper Canon EOS RP across the ISO range, though.

Weird Wood, October 2018, 3:21 P.M. Nikon Z7, Nikon 24-70mm f/4 Z at 41mm, f/8 hand-held at 1/30 at Auto ISO 64, Perfectly Clear v3.6. bigger or full-resolution. The Canon EOS RP is currently the cheapest of the bunch, but it is also the oldest camera, so its specifications are a bit outdated. It has no in-body image stabilization and its camera features are a bit limited. Interestingly, the Nikon Z5 swaps the single XQD/CFexpress card slot in the Z6 and Z7 for dual SD card slots. Stopping down, I see the same basic results (center best, out past DX frame slightly worse, corners slightly worse yet), though obviously a stop or two smaller aperture helps boost the overall results upward in all respects. Even at f/5.6 this lens is producing far-better-than-usable edge-to-edge performance at all focal lengths. Compared to the Sony 24-70mm f/4 FE, the Nikkor looks like you went to the optometrist, had your eyes examined, and got perfectly corrected glasses. It's a night and day difference, frankly.Measured in photo mode at ISO 100 and a temperature of 20 °C/68 °F using single-servo AF (AF-S) and a lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.0. The very best protective filter is the 72mm Hoya multicoated HD3 UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints. While this lens has no Image Stabilization (IS or Vibration Reduction (VR)) of its own, it only works on Nikon's Z cameras, which have their own stabilization designed to work in concert with this lens. Focus points: 273 (Number of focus points available in photo mode with single-point AF selected for AF-area mode and FX selected for image area)

Just grab the electronic focus ring at any time for instant manual-focus override. It works very well, much better than Sony. It features a retractable design and adopts 14 elements in 11 groups, which include one aspherical extra-low dispersion (ED), one spherical ED, and three aspherical elements. It also has nano crystal and Nikon integrated coatings to help mitigate flare and ghosting, while it uses a fluorine coating to help keep the front element clean. Nisen, or double-edged, bokeh in slightly defocused regions or transition zones. This sort of problematic bokeh is increasingly apparent in modern lens designs employing multiple aspherics, so is not unique to this particular lens. See full image here. Both rings are smooth on my sample, and the build quality feels solid, a bit above that of the f/1.8G primes Nikon has made for the F-mount. The lens balances very nicely on the smallish Z bodies. The Sigma fp L has an in-line crop-zoom feature for stills and video, so it is a kit under 900g with a FOV range of 28mm (FF 1x) to 140mm (m4/3 2x) and beyond depending upon the mode (~400mm, 1080p 5.6x). The Panasonic and Leica S/SL cameras also have crop modes, but they require configuration and only for a few steps, like ~APS-C and ~m4/3, rather than the 26-steps of the fp L.
