To provide Wi-Fi coverage to every corner of your home, the connection between each point needs to be strong. Make sure the points are evenly spread out but not too far from each other. The Google Home app supports only one primary Wi-Fi network per home, but you can create up to 5 homes with a single Wi-Fi network in each. Additionally, each Wi-Fi network per home can have a single guest network. However, using multiple Wi-Fi networks at the same location can cause interference if their coverage overlaps. If you want to use a Nest Wifi router, we recommend setting it up first. You’ll need to factory reset your Google Wifi network through the app, and then set up a new network. Learn more about how to replace your Wi-Fi network. If you don’t want to take advantage of improved speed and coverage of the Nest Wifi router, you can add your Nest Wifi router as an additional point.

There are two Ethernet ports on the Nest Wi-Fi Router. The 'WAN' port is indicated by the icon of a globe and the 'LAN' port is indicated by '<->' icon. The cable from the Internet Service Provided or from the modem is connected to the WAN port. Can You Have Too Many Nest Wi-Fi Points? As much as I enjoyed the Nest Wifi, I’d be lying if I said it was perfect. It’s pretty close, though. Here are a few things that aren’t so great about Nest Wifi:The added fact that the Nest Router is capable of connecting via an Ethernet cable is definitely a benefit. Not enough ethernet ports. As mentioned before, there’s only one extra ethernet port on the router and none on the Points. This means you’ll need to use a switch or something if you want more direct ethernet connections in your home. Now think about where else you want a strong Wi-Fi signal in your home. Place your next point about halfway in that direction, but not more than two rooms away from the primary point.

Once you have set up your network, you can perform a mesh test to verify your connections are strong and readjust the placement of your points as needed. For more Wifi device placement tips, learn how to improve coverage for an existing network. If you use a switch, we recommend using an unmanaged switch or configuring a managed switch to disable Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and forward Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDUs) when STP is disabled. This will avoid technical issues with some managed switches as it relates to routing and network loops. Parental controls are a breeze, too. Want to pause Wi-Fi during homework time or when the kiddos should be going to bed? Nest Wifi makes it easy. Just head into the Home app and tap a few buttons to set it up. Google also allows you to restrict searches, though it’s not the most robust system. If you want to set up more granular internet access, there are apps and software tools that give you much more control. Still, it’s nice to have the option. If you’d like to add another point, tap Yes in the app when prompted or repeat these steps at a later time for additional points. Includes one Nest Wifi Point. Nest Wifi points are designed to expand your existing Wi-Fi network and require a Nest Wifi router (sold separately).

Even without the crowding of Nest Point devices on the Wi-Fi network, the higher performance of the Nest Routers allows you to add many more devices to your network when compared to Point devices.

Guest networking, parental controls, and other notable features

Get off the ground. Placing devices somewhere off the ground, such as on a shelf, can greatly improve coverage. Make sure the Google Home app has been granted permission for "local network access" ( https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/7172427?hl=en ). Tap Yes to continue. If you have multiple devices available for setup, select the Nest Wifi point you'd like to set up. Find a nearby wall outlet. Make sure the power adapter is connected to your point, then plug the other end into the outlet. If you’re setting up a Nest Wifi point, the point’s light will pulse to indicate that it’s powering on.

If you'd like to add another point, tap Yes in the app when prompted, or repeat those steps at a later time for additional points. When adding additional points: IPv6 on Nest Wifi has caused strange problems lately. One thing to try is to disable IPv6 ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6361450?hl=en ), add new Nest Wifi unit, then leave IPv6 off or enable it again. If you have invested in Google Nest Wi-Fi, the latest mesh Wi-Fi system from Google, you have naturally wondered whether to buy routers for your mesh or point devices to extend range and connectivity. If you’d like to add another Wifi device, tap Yes in the app to continue or follow the steps to add an additional point or routerat a later time. Stay close. Points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. For example, if the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it partway in that direction.Once you've added all of your Wifi devices, the app will perform a mesh test to confirm everything is working. Nest Wifi devices include the Google Nest Wifi router and Nest Wifi points with Google Assistant speakers. You can also add Google Wifi points to your Nest Wifi network in the same way you add Nest Wifi points. Place your Nest Wifi router If possible, place your router off the ground and in plain view, like on a shelf or TV stand. If you can, try to choose a central location in your home that's at eye level. Add a Nest Wifi Pro router as a point
