Their whiskeys encompass rediscovered 19 th -century blends and acclaimed single malts, with finishes including such rare influences as Marsala, mizunara, peated red ale and seaweed. This year marks 100 years of Joyce’s greatest work: the novel Ulysses. To celebrate the momentous occasion, Amber Beverage Group-owned Writers’ Tears has created a commemorative bottle of Irish whiskey. th MAY, 2019 – Carlow, Ireland: Walsh Whiskey has created a new core expression for it’s Writers’ Tears range which focuses on exploring the rarest of whiskey blends first made popular in 18 th century Ireland – aged Single Pot Still and Single Malt premium whiskeys. As one of Walsh Whiskey’s core expressions, Writers’ Tears Double Oak is available to all markets, and will be first available in the USA, Russia, UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands & Ireland (including Dublin Airport).

The expanded distribution of Writers’ Tears is being overseen by Walsh Whiskey Distillery’s US distribution partner Disaronno International led by EVP/General Manager, Ray Stoughton. Disaronno International also distribute Walsh Whiskey Distillery’s portfolio of The Irishman premium Irish whiskeys. Writer’s Tears Irish Whiskey is remarkable. I was not expecting to like a 40%, young, chill-filtered whiskey as much as I am. The blend of Irish Single Malt and Irish Single Pot Still creates a richness and depth that blows past my expectations and has me sitting here smiling like an idiot while typing this up and sipping on a glass. The inspiration behind the latest Writers’ Tears bottling, Ulysses, is an epic novel about regular people going about their lives on a single day in Dublin: 16 June 1904. The tome recounts the lives and uncensored thoughts of the characters through their own streams of conscience, a revolutionary idea in 1922. So ground-breaking was the book that it caused uproar in ‘respectable’ society and was banned internationally until a group of brave Parisian women published the first 1,020 copies on 2 February 1922, Joyce’s 40 th birthday. Announcing the release of the special bottling, Bernard Walsh, Creator of Writers’ Tears and Managing Director of Walsh Whiskey, said: “Celebrating Ireland’s literary greats has always been at the core of Writers’ Tears and there is none greater than James Joyce. We are delighted to play our part in supporting Joyce’s legacy through Sweny’s Pharmacy, which is a piece of perfectly preserved living history from Joyce’s Victorian Dublin.”The complexities resulting from the marriage of spicy single pot still whiskey with Bourbon, sweet PX and Marsala casks are a feast for the senses. This special expression is in keeping with Walsh Whiskey’s innovative approach to whiskey origination which includes pushing the boundaries on single pot still. I am very proud of this whiskey, our first single pot still expression, and excited to bring a new core whiskey to the Writers’ Tears family that will become available to more and more of our followers in over 50 countries worldwide over time.” Established in 1999 by husband and wife, Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, and located in Ireland’s Ancient East region on the 18 th century Royal Oak estate; Walsh Whiskey Distillery is a leading producer of premium and super-premium, triple-distilled, craft, Irish whiskeys – Writers’ Tears and The Irishman. Demand for these critically acclaimed whiskeys currently exceeds available supply in the 45 countries they are distributed to worldwide. Produced by the same bottler (NOT distiller) who sells The Irishman blend, Walsh Whiskey Distillery Ltd., (have I mentioned recently how much I loathe NDPs – that’s non-distiller producer – who use the word “distillery” or “distiller” in the name?), Writers’ Tears is a novel vatting of 40% triple-distilled Irish single-malt whiskey “probably” from Cooley (but the source is unknown), and 60% triple-distilled Irish single pot-still whiskey from Midleton, the only distiller of mature single pot-still whiskey — for now! The vatting is aged for an undisclosed amount of time in ex-bourbon American oak casks and bottled without chill-filtration at 40% ABV. Note that The Irishman blend has the same two component types, but at different ratios.
