The Mr Slowboy series is conceived and drawn by London-based artist Fei Wang. Slowboy. Fei has captured a distinctive style with a love for vintage aesthetics and nostalgia, topped with a playfully modern twist that feels unmistakably contemporary. He planned a brunch on Sunday with Elie, at FLOR, the only "decent Mexican restaurant in Paris" according to them... of course. Drake’s is my all-time favourite brand. Recently I’m into Japanese brands such as Post Overalls and Old Joe Brand. As a Correspondent for this legendary Northwestern US daily newspaper, he has an endless sense of curiosity. Fei Wang is the fashion illustrator and artist behind the sartorial fictional character Mr Slowboy. Based in London with his family, the Beijing-born artist recently released his first book, Mr Slowboy; a retrospective of 6 years of illustrations. We caught up with Mr Slowboy to find out more about his practice.

It’s been my second time in Florence during Pitti but first time when I got in to the fair at Fortezza. And I always have my notebook with me now, so hopefully I won’t loose this one.

In partnership with fashion illustrator Fei Wang, the range’s T-shirts don a legion of graphics depicting city bikers. On shades of navy, white and grey, the artist’s work, more regularly recognized under the moniker Mr. Slowboy, appears front and center on each design. In closing, the collection serves up a series of bags, each of which is designed for the on-the-go. A 24-liter holdall can be attached to the front of the collaborative bike, as can a new wax city bag, which boasts brass hardware and leather trims. Our man dresses in wear topical to concourse exhibitions and car racing in Britain. He stands before the bonnet of the iconic Jaguar E-Type - a unique piece of automotive design and engineering. Timeless design recognised and admired the world over. As I mentioned above, I saw a very different picture when I was mapping all of my previous work on the floor, and they certainly evolved from time to time, not just the proportion of the figures or the drawing techniques, even the preferable styling is subtly changing along with the fashion trends. However, I could tell from the work that classic and traditional menswear was still my favorite subject and most of the sitters in my favorite portraits are in suits. I also like to think that it is like Simpson. You know, Mr Slowboy now becomes a specific world. When you get into it, you become a pert of it too. That’s why, for example, when I did illustrations of Jake (ex The Armoury) or Ethan I think they became part of the Slowboy world too :).

Tell us a bit about the process. How long does a typical illustration take to draw and what techniques do you use? At The Edwardian Manchester, McCor was inspired by the landscape, designs, and scenery around him, including the hotel’s mix of modern and Victorian architecture which he brought to life and captured from a new perspective with his signature brand of illustrative photographic art and humour. Go behind the scenes on YouTube below.Bolin Webb is delighted to have engaged Mr Slowboy to create a unique personality for razors in our popular R1 range. Our man has a strong sense of style and a “twinkle in his eye”. He is well-dressed, dapper and, of course, clean shaven! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us, Fei. For the blog readers that don’t know you, can you tell us a little about yourself and your work? Moreover our couple goes religiously every Sunday to Merci, when they are in "Paeris, rivee dwoite".

I think it is nice when other brands recognise and appreciate your work. For example recently some car and watch brands approached me. If their subject or item fit my style or if the project is fashion related I would work with them. I wouldn’t do a project with a brand that either has nothing to do with fashion or if it is completely different from my aesthetics. Elie looks good even when he wakes up, in his bathrobe, bought on rue de la paix in this great Maison that also makes his shirts. The only thing I can afford in an art auction is the catalogue." Thank you! Yes, this is my first book and a summary of my first stage of working full-time as a fashion illustrator. I was approached by Victionary, a Hong Kong based publisher in mid 2020 about creating a men’s styling book which made me review and assess all the work I had produced in the last 6 years, and it’s quite interesting and refreshing to look at them collectively. I thought perhaps I should just use this opportunity to curate an “exhibition” that archives and showcases the development of my previous commissions and personal work in a book form!
