Buzz can be considered a pop culture icon. In October 2007, readers of Empire voted Buzz No. 1 of the Top 20 Greatest Pixar Characters. [22] They also rated him the 94th greatest movie character of all time. [23] At the Terillium Mine, Sox, Buzz, and the rest of the Junior Patrol, arrive at the facility and enter a facility within the mine and just as they enter, four AI devices activate and trap Sox and his allies in capture cones, leaving them unable to escape; after Darby and Izzy are caught in the cone where Mo was trapped, Sox ends up getting trapped as well. Buzz asks Sox if there is a possible way to disarm the traps, but Sox is unable reach the controls that can help him deactivate the traps, leading the four to slam their cone into the control after Buzz keeps the door open, although they are unable to disarm the traps; Buzz and his allies (who are all in the same cone) managed to slam the control very hard while the door is still open, albeit pressure they put causes a part of the platform carrying part of the building to collapse. Just as the part of the building collapses, Buzz tosses Sox onto Izzy's hand to help protect him just as Buzz manages to retrieve the coil and escape the collapsing part of the building. In 2009, Lego began releasing its Lego Toy Story line, which included a 205-piece Buzz Lightyear action figure. When the figure is completely built, it has an articulating head, arms, hands, torso, legs, feet, wings, and visor. [18] Lego also created a Buzz Lightyear minifigure. In 2016 a new version of Buzz Lightyear was created for the Lego minifigures Disney series. This minifigure featured new prints for the legs and arms of the minifigure and removed the Star Command logo from the chest of the torso piece. [19] A simpler version of this minifigure appeared in the Toy Story 4 line, with the Star Command logo reinstated but without prints on the arms or side of the legs. [20] Two new minifigures were made for the spin off movie Lightyear with two sets featuring his regular space suit, with one set including an alternate head and hairpiece included to have him unmasked, and a third including one of him in the orange and gray suit he wears at the beginning of the film. [21] Reception and legacy [ edit ] According to XR, he failed to pass a certification test for the laser drill aboard Team Lightyear's ship due to spelling errors and neatness in " Sunquake", and in " Gravitina", Buzz is annoyed that XR sent Gravitina the love letter without letting him proofread it. This may prove that XR is not the best at spelling, especially as in " The Return of XL", he misspells "au revoir" as "au revior". LEGO reveals Disney Pixar's Lightyear sets with Buzz Lightyear's 76832 XL-15 Spaceship and more [News]". March 28, 2022.

The name Zyclops is parody on the word Cyclops, a one-eyed giant from Greek mythology. Also like the cyclops, Zyclops have one red glowing eye. XR's internal storage system contains many different items, with many of the more outlandish ones appearing to be leftovers from the time he was blasted apart by Agent Z during the theft of the Uni-Mind. Other items were likely added by XR himself for personal use, including times when he'd wish to offer said items to someone. Many are for convenience sake. The smallest group of items are Star Command Ordinance and weaponry, and a few items that even XR with his impeccable memory apparently can't remember a reason for carrying.

Sox resembles a ginger and white robot cat with green eyes and wears a blue collar with his name engraved on a tag. Dunn, Marcia (June 6, 2008). "Japan's space lab just got bigger". NBC News. XR is an LGM sized robot that sports Star Command's colors (purple, green, white) and logo on his chassis. He has a disembodied gold/bronze-colored head with yellow optics, encased purple circles and green eyelids. However, sometimes the optics appear green or red depending on his mood. He possesses short arms and legs which can stretch out to any length he wants. He also possesses continuous treads encased in green feet and has a pair of purple hands. His head is surrounded by an oval glass dome. XR was mentioned in a 2010 "Free Comic Book Day" Toy Story comic, " The Return of Buzz Lightyear: Part One".Regarding the design of Lightyear, Toy Story director John Lasseter said he wanted to create an action figure in the line of G.I. Joe for the film and decided upon a spaceman figure. [6] Lasseter attributes his design to the influence of Apollo astronauts, in particular, their clear helmets, skullcaps, communication devices, and white suits. [7]

One thing I can't stand is gambling! I'll lay you seven to one odds there's no more poker after tonight." As you know, normally I'm not one to panic, primarily because Buzz always comes to the rescue. But we're currently fighting Buzz, so who's coming to the rescue?" Buzz Lightyear is a meetable character at all of the Disney Parks and Resorts, located in Tomorrowland and in Toy Story Land. He is often accompanied by the Aliens. Tim Allen reprised his role using one of his archival recordings in the 2018 Walt Disney Animation Studios film Ralph Breaks the Internet, where he repeated his famous catchphrase. The Xperimental Ranger, or XR for short, was created by the LGMs as the second robot Space Ranger, following the failure of the original XL model, programmed to learn from one of the best Rangers, Buzz Lightyear. The Little Green Men went behind Commander Nebula's jurisdiction and Star Command recruitment protocols when they inducted XR as a ranger, defending that the commander authorized it, unwittingly, after signing the LGMs vacation request through which they apparently slipped XR's acceptance form (and apparently, they do this kind of thing a lot, with Commander Nebula being none the wiser). On his first mission, he imitated Buzz repeatedly during their attempt to save the LGM homeworld from the Evil Emperor Zurg's dark forces, and was destroyed by Buzz's old partner in Zurg's employment, Warp Darkmatter (now Agent Z). The LGMs attempted to rebuild him, but the loss of their Uni-Mind to Zurg left them off their game, leading them to rebuild him with improper parts. This gave him a human, less professional personality, and he was temporarily reassigned as a janitor alongside Booster Munchapper until he eventually joined Buzz's team after helping him save the galaxy from Zurg's Uni-Mind powered mind control machine.

In the Disney–Pixar Toy Story franchise, Buzz wears a green, purple, and white space suit. Buzz Lightyear is a recurring character in all of the Toy Story franchise's animated films, including spin-offs. Notably, Woody serves as the main protagonist throughout the four films in the series, while Buzz remains an important character. In Toy Story (1995), unlike most other toys, Buzz initially believes himself to be the "real" Buzz Lightyear and comes to terms with actually being just a toy; in Toy Story 2 (1999), Buzz encounters other Buzz Lightyear action figures from the toyline who similarly believe themselves to be "real" including one of the character's in-universe archenemy and father: Emperor Zurg; in Toy Story 3 (2010), set ten years later, Buzz explores a romance with cowgirl figure Jessie, while he uncovers his Spanish mode; while in Toy Story 4 (2019), Buzz finds his inner voice and bids farewell to Woody, who leaves to be with Bo Peep. They also strongly resemble the two robots guarding the Pizza Planet entrance, and the robots from the deleted opening of Toy Story.
